NPC is looking at new ways of being the church during our current crisis and one of the new initiatives we’ve launched in conjunction with Camp Kintail is an online camp chapel. During our regular camp programs, we always begin the day with songs, a story and prayer. We’ve decided to provide that same experience on our Facebook page every morning at 9:00 am. Each day a new family will host chapel in their own unique way. It’s a great way to start the day or a great devotion to use before bed. So gather the family together to watch the latest episode and sing, dance, pray and laugh with other families who are stuck at home too.
Last week we had a very successful Zoom worship service and got lots of positive feedback from participants. Therefore, for the next while, NPC and St. David’s will be worshipping together Sunday mornings at 10:00 am using a video conferencing app called “Zoom”. It’s really simple to use and can be used from both a laptop/tablet/smart phone or landline phone. Please email email@example.com for more information about joining the service live. We will also post the service afterwards on our Facebook page for anyone who would like to watch. We look forward to worshipping together in this new way each Sunday.
In light of the current state-of-emergency, the church building will be closed until further notice. Church leaders are still providing pastoral care and some programming is still being offered online. Worship will be streamed online this Sunday (details still to come).
Update: The live stream didn’t work very well on Sunday so we have posted a video of the sermon on our facebook page. Or you can watch it by clicking the following link:
NPC is still having its regular worship service tomorrow but we will also be live streaming the service using Facebook Live at 10:00 am for those who choose to stay home. It’s easy to use. Simply go to our Facebook page, scroll down until you see the live stream post and then click. We sometimes have trouble with the internet connection at the church so if the live stream is interrupted, you will be able to view the whole service once its been posted to the page.
Our hope is that during this time of “social distancing” that we will still be able to worship together in alternative ways.
In light of the recent school closures and the urging of health professionals to engage in “social distancing” behaviour, we’ve decided to cancel our March Break Camp next week. As caring members of our community, we want to do our part to “flatten the curve”. We apologize for any inconvenience and pray that you have a safe and healthy March Break.
Nassagaweya Presbyterian Church is committed to providing a safe and healthy place for people to gather and worship God. The national office of the Presbyterian Church in Canada has provided congregations information about what we can be doing to lower the health risks associated with COVID-19 and NPC is implementing these recommendations for this Sunday including:
- hand sanitizer will be readily available
- tissues will be available in the pews
- instead of handshakes, greeters will use alternative greetings
- commonly-touched surfaces will be disinfected
- people will be reminded to wash their hands
In addition to the above actions:
- no refreshments after worship
- no bulletins will be handed out
- offering plates will not be passed around
All are welcome to come and worship but we would invite anyone with a cold or flu symptoms to stay at home. We will be streaming the service this Sunday so if you area member of a vulnerable population, or if you’re simply worried or uncomfortable attending worship, please stay home and enjoy the service online (details still to come).
Please stay tuned as we will be regularly updating our website with current information.
On Saturday, March 28th, the Guelph Line Churches are offering a “Day of Guided Prayer” from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at St. David’s Presbyterian Church. This day is like a mini-retreat to help participants rest, reflect and renew their faith by learning a different approach to prayer and reading scripture. All are welcome. The cost is $15 and lunch is included.
The day begins with worship and an introduction to guided prayer. Participants will then be invited into a time of personal meditation followed by a time of sharing with a trained companion. A labyrinth will also be available and instructions will be provided on how use this ancient spiritual practice. The day will then close with worship.
